Outdoor Water Painting

Bring dramatic play outside, as you and the children in your care experience the art of house-painting with a magical paint--called water!

You'll need:

• a paintbrush or roller • a small bucket or paint pan • water
What to do:

1. Help your children fill the bucket with water.
2. Invite them to help you paint the fence, trees or driveway with water.

How to use:

1. Demonstrate how to use each of the utensils to paint hard surfaces.
2. As they are busy at work, talk about their actions. Use phrases like; "That's a big brush you are using, I like watching you move it up and down, you are just like a real house painter."
3. As the children are painting, recite this chant together:

Painting up, painting down,
Painting all around!

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

* What happens to the painted surface when the sun shines on it?
* Would you like to be a house painter when you grow up? Why?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, children are developing small and large muscle skills and concepts related to science.
